Maintain Cary’s Small-Town Charm While Transforming Into a Thriving Community

The Cary of today is not the Cary it was when I took office in 2013. Our village had stalled, and our strategic plans had not been updated in 20 years. I initiated a new comprehensive plan which was approved in 2015 with the help of hundreds of Cary residents and a new downtown plan was approved in 2020 with hundreds of people participating in the plan and sharing their feedback. From day one I have embraced innovative solutions to reinvent ourselves and offer a better quality of life for families and neighbors.

Our downtown transformation has given residents a destination for dining, entertainment, and community. From branded benches to the first downtown open-container bar, these efforts create a fun, welcoming space where neighbors gather and families make memories. Under my leadership, we’ve welcomed 167 new businesses, bringing jobs and more local shopping and dining options, while 82 others have expanded or relocated within Cary.

We’ve created a downtown where people want to be and it’s rewarding walking downtown with my family and seeing it crowded and lively. Residents from neighboring communities are coming to spend their money in our village and support our businesses. In fact, over 60% of food truck sales are from people outside of Cary, and national recognition from Barstool Sports, NBC, and ABC have brought people to town to try our restaurants.

This growth is what our community desires while maintaining our small town charm. We’ve talked and surveyed residents, we’ve met with business owners throughout downtown and around town who all want to see Cary continue to thrive. The community has asked for luxury apartments and small developments, not big names stores and that’s what we’re delivering on. We’re bringing infrastructure out to Route 31 and we’ve already heard from businesses who would like to come here, which would add more to our tax base, reducing the tax burden on our residents.

We’re creating even more opportunities with the Gliniecki Family Community Plaza, developing a hub with music, food trucks, and spaces like a pavilion and fire pits for friends, families, and kids to enjoy. We want to create Instagram-able moments and get the younger generation excited about living in Cary. We’re expanding the Cary Main Street Fest to a three-day celebration to include the Farmer’s Market. And we’ll expand Main Street’s atmosphere to Spring Street, add more lighting and seating throughout downtown, and add gates to shut down roads for local events.

Vote for me so I can continue expanding Cary into a thriving community our residents desire.
