Protect Cary’s Tradition of Fiscal Responsibility
Cary can only thrive and grow as much as our finances allow us to, which is why I have protected taxpayer dollars and maintained a strong commitment to being fiscally responsible.
With every decision we make, we first look for grants so we don’t have to impact residents. Since 2013, I have helped secure over $15 million in state and federal grants, transforming those funds into better roads, upgraded infrastructure, and enhanced public spaces—all without increasing local taxes. We funded the new municipal center without raising taxes, and completed the project ahead of schedule and under budget. We received over $1.5 million in grants for the 1st Street bike lane and $2 million for the new Metro Station that moves the train station to the other side of the tracks. And we’ve secured $7 million through grants for a deeper water well and the Route 31 development. My main goal is to improve Cary without taxpayers bearing the brunt of it.
This foresight and planning has allowed us to consistently lower our village’s tax rate. Under my leadership, the village’s tax rate has decreased by 28%. We’re also finding ways to add to our village’s tax base, like redeveloping a vacant manufacturing plant into workforce housing. The increased tax revenue strengthens Cary’s financial stability, which helps keep property taxes low while funding vital services and projects that improve daily life.
And we’re cutting costs while improving services. We’ve become pioneers in partnering with other municipalities and sharing services. We’re driving down the cost of governing by joining forces with other villages, such as being able to negotiate better deals for road salt, tree trimming, and curb and sidewalk replacements. We’ve also saved the village over $300,000 a year by having contract employees where needed and have reduced the village’s employee count by over 20 employees, which has streamlined services for residents.
We’ve primed Cary up for success long into the future. Vote for me so I can protect Cary’s tradition of fiscal responsibility.
